Do I need a referral from my GP to see a chiropractor?

In the UK, chiropractors are primary healthcare professionals. That means you can see one directly, without needing to go through a GP first.

Chiropractors are trained to:

  • Assess, diagnose, and manage a wide range of conditions
  • Identify issues involving the spine, joints, muscles, posture, and nervous system
  • Refer you to another healthcare provider if something falls outside their scope

So if you’re dealing with pain, stiffness, poor posture, or just feel like something doesn’t feel right in your body — you can book an appointment with a chiropractor without waiting.

You don’t need permission to get help.
Just the right person to listen, assess, and guide you.

The only time you may need a GP referral

is if you’re planning to use private medical insurance. Some insurers require it before covering treatment — so be sure to check directly with your provider.
