Will I be adjusted at the first visit?

The truth about what really happens at your first chiropractic appointment
It’s one of the most common questions people ask before booking:

“Will I be adjusted at my first visit?”

And it’s a fair question—especially if you’re feeling nervous, in pain, or just unsure about what to expect.
The short answer? Usually, no.
But not because we’re holding back.
Because it’s not the right place to start.

Why We Don’t Rush to Adjust

Chiropractic care isn’t like a one-size-fits-all massage or a “crack-and-go” appointment.
It’s specific. It’s clinical. And it’s guided by one goal: to do what’s right for your body—not just what feels good in the moment.
Your spine is the centre of your body’s structural and neurological system. It’s not something we touch without understanding it fully.
Before we adjust anything, we need to ask:

• What’s really causing your pain or problem?
• Are there any red flags or underlying conditions?
• Is it safe to adjust you right now?
• Where is your body compensating?
• And—most importantly—is chiropractic care even the right fit for you?
We wouldn’t let someone service our car without looking under the bonnet first—so why would we do that with your body?

So What Happens at the First Visit?

Your first appointment is about understanding you.

We call it the Assessment Visit—and it includes:

• A deep dive into your history (injuries, lifestyle, symptoms, and more)
• A full spinal and structural assessment (not just where it hurts, but why)
• A movement and posture analysis (how your body’s really functioning)
• Orthopaedic and neurological testing (if needed, to rule things out)
• Space for you to ask anything and talk through your goals
We’re building a map. This builds a full picture of your body—not just where it hurts, but why.
From there, we can create a plan that’s tailored, safe, and actually makes sense for you.
Because pain is usually the last thing to show up—not the problem itself.

Why Wait for the Adjustment?

Think of it like this:
If your spine has been compensating for months, years, or decades—it’s like a tangled knot.
To start tugging at it without understanding the pattern would be careless.
So we pause.
We go away.
We analyse everything.

Then—at your second visit—we show you what we found, how we can help, and what your options are.
That’s when care begins.

Are There Any Exceptions?

Sometimes, yes.
If someone comes in with acute pain and we’ve done a full assessment, ruled out any risks, and it’s clear that a specific adjustment could help ease their discomfort—we may adjust on the first visit.
But only if it’s the right thing to do.
Not because it’s expected. Not because “that’s how it’s done.”

So When Will I Actually Get Treated?

On the 2nd of the two visits included in your initial consultation. After:
• We’ve reviewed all your assessment results
• We’ve created a tailored, safe treatment plan
• And you’ve had time to ask questions and feel confident about what’s next

We want you to know why you’re being adjusted.
What it’s doing.
What you might feel.
And how it fits into the bigger picture of healing.

Because great care isn’t just about what we do—it’s about making sure you feel informed, empowered, and safe every step of the way.

Still have questions?

Good. You should.
We’re here to answer all of them—before, during, and after your visit.
